Commonly Asked Questions

Q: Won’t rain water or water from my garden hose clean my solar panels?

A: NO. Both rain water and tap water contain harsh contaminants that will leave a residue on them. Both types of water will not effectively clean your solar panels.

Q: My solar panels look clean, so how do I know they are dirty?

A: There are a couple of factors that make the solar panels “appear” clean. The color of the panels, the angle of the panels, and the distance of the panels on the roof can make the panels “look” clean. Once you get up close, it is easy to see just how dirty the panels really are.

Q: What causes a solar panel to get dirty?

A: The elements of the environment – rain, pollen, smog, dust, fog, vehicle emissions, bird droppings, algae, and wind, are all contributing causes that make your solar panels dirty and thus less efficient.

Q: Does Clean Your Solar use a special type of cleaner to clean solar panels?

A: Clean Your Solar uses a specially formulated solution made for solar panels.

Q: Protecting the environment is important to me. Will the cleaner harm the environment in any way?

A: Clean Your Solar only uses environmentally friendly products. The products that we use are also pet friendly and landscape friendly as well.

Q: How often should I have my solar panels cleaned?

A: This really depends on the environment where you live. For example, if you live in an area where it is dusty/windy or where ocean air is present, you may want to have your panels cleaned 2-3 times a year. Remember, the more frequent the cleanings, the more efficient your system will be.

Q: Why does it matter which direction my solar panels face in regards to cleaning?

A: It is never a good idea to clean solar panels in direct sunlight. If your panels face eastward, then it would be more beneficial to clean them in the afternoon. If your panels face south, then the best time to clean them would be in the morning.

Q: Do you require “contracts” on your maintenance plans?

A: Clean Your Solar does not require contracts of our residential clients. If you are a commercial client, we can set your business up on a contract if so desired. Maintenance plans are available for both residential and commercial clients.

Q: What forms of payments does Clean Your Solar accept?

A: Clean Your Solar proudly accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. In addition, we also accept cash and checks. Please note that there is a $25 NSF charge for returned checks.
